GERMAN SAUSAGE SALAD
Wurstsalat, a traditional German sausage salad, is a flavorful and hearty dish often enjoyed as a light meal or appetizer.
Good For:
Lunch
Ingredients
- 2 sausages (such as Bratwurst, Bockwurst, or Frankfurters), cooked and sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 dill pickle, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1/2 cup Emmental or Swiss cheese, cubed
Step 1
In a bowl, combine the sliced sausages, onion, pickle, and chopped parsley. If you’re adding cheese, you can include it here as well.
Step 2
In a separate small bowl, whisk together the white wine vinegar, vegetable oil, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. This will be the dressing for the salad.
Step 3
Pour the dressing over the sausage mixture. Toss everything together gently to ensure even coating. Let the Wurstsalat marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together.
Step 4
Before serving, give the salad another gentle toss to redistribute the dressing and flavors. Serve the Wurstsalat on its own as a light meal or appetizer. It can also be enjoyed with crusty bread, pretzels, or a side of potato salad.
Step 5
Wurstsalat is a versatile dish, and you can adjust the ingredients and quantities to suit your taste preferences. It’s commonly found in traditional German beer gardens and is perfect for picnics and casual gatherings.
